Another easy comfort food idea (baked apples)as the official comfort food season is on… Despite the fact, that here in Southern California, we’re still enjoying summertime at its fullest.

Here’s an easy comfort food idea, once you make this delicious warm dessert, you will keep making it anytime you want something quick and simple, yet quite filling.

Baked apples with cinnamon, nuts, butter, served warm with thick ganache and cherry preserve.

Ingredients

Recipe can be increased to desired amount according to apple quantity

3 medium size golden delicious apples ( recommended kind for this recipe)

3 tsp brown sugar (1/2 tsp for each apple)

3 tsp granulated white sugar ( 1/2 tsp for each Apple)

3 cinnamon sticks

15 grams of unsalted butter ( 5 grams for each apple)

3 tbs coarsely chopped nuts ( I used walnuts or pecans)

For chocolate ganache

1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips

1 1/2 tbs milk

5 grams of unsalted butter

1/2 tbs rum or cognac ( optional)

Melt everything in microwave or over double boiler ( the alcohol at the end )

You will also need cherry preserve

Directions

Preheat the oven to 375° F/ 185° C

Core the apples, clean and remove the seeds

Place cinnamon sticks in each apple and sprinkle with sugars (1/2 tsp brown,1/2 tsp white)

Add the butter and nuts

Bake 35-40 minutes

Meanwhile prepare the ganache by simply melting all the ingredients in microwave or double method

Generously drizzle baked apples with chocolate and cherry preserve to your taste

Serve warm
