Homemade Soft Pretzels

I’ve been baking these homemade soft pretzels for a few years now , as this is my children’s favorite snack. They call these soft pretzels (mall pretzels) , even though ours taste so much better than the ones we used to buy from store. And,yes, used to, they no longer ask me to buy those from anywhere else, as our homemade soft pretzels are so good, not even comparable. When you taste the best of anything ,you no longer remember about the first one . Try the recipe and you’ll see what I mean:)

Ingredients

Homemade Soft Pretzels
3½ – 4 Cups all purpose flour
1¾ Cups warm milk (microwave for about 2 minutes)
1 tbs instant dry yeast ( if using active dry,activate in warm milk)
1 tsp salt
You will also need
Coarse salt
½ Cup of baking soda
3 Cups of hot water
50 grams of unsalted butter,melted

Directions:

Homemade Soft Pretzels
In a mixing bowl combine: warmed milk , 3 1/2 cups of flour , yeast and salt
Mix and knead to a soft , non sticky dough
Add additional flour if needed, don’t add too much flour!
Put the dough in greased bowl
Cover with plastic wrap or dump towel
Allow to rise 35-45 minutes
Transfer the dough onto your working surface, preferably lightly greased
(At this point you can preheat the oven to 400° F/200°C and prepare greased baking sheets or lined with parchment paper)
Mix 3 cups of hot water and soda set aside
Punch the air out the dough and knead lightly 1-2 minutes
Divide into 8 equal portions
Roll into 36″-38″ long stripes, shape as pretzels
Quickly dip in soda water and place on your greased baking sheet
Sprinkle with coarse salt
Bake 15-18 minutes or until golden color
Brush with melted butter while still hot

Tip : these pretzels freeze very well, up to 2 weeks, just be sure to do that the same day,wrap in a plastic ,then in a foil
