Easter Eggs Natural Dye with Onion Shells

Natural Dye with Onion Shells

The best natural dye for Easter eggs happens to be the red onion shell, that’s what we use in Armenia. The only way my grandmother would dye those special Easter eggs was using the red onion shells, that she’d gather and save during the year. She’d even say that : eggs dyed with natural dye are tastier, healthier and special. She was always right , and I still remember so many things she’d say or do, and can’t stop thinking what a wise , strong and simply remarkable woman she was.

I normally use brown or white onions, so didn’t have a chance to save the shells throughout the year,  my bad. But I was determined to find the shells when the time comes, and to my luck I came across with a pile of red onion shells in my local supermarket. I grabbed and scraped those onion shells , didn’t live a spec on that aisle, as if those were my lifesavers. They were in some way:)

I really wanted to share this natural dye idea with everyone who didn’t know.

One other thing , besides natural dye ,we also use natural greens to decorate those Easter eggs.

In my YouTube tutorial ,I explain and show everything in details, so please refer to the video and feel free to ask me questions if something isn’t clear.

This isn’t anything that requires a recipe , so I’ll simply put down the directions on how to make those special Easter eggs.

Happy Easter Everyone !

  1. Can you please let me know how your Easter bread came out nicely braided and round. I always try and where I pinch the ends comes out uneven and skinnier then the rest. Thank you

    • It happens with mine too, you can tie a nice red bow on that part, that’s how many do:)
I may do another tutorial and show how to make a perfectly branded circle bread
