Pomegranate Chicken Dish – Khokhop

Pomegranate Chicken Recipe

Pomegranate chicken never tasted this delicious.

Original, comfort dish called Khokhop, from Armenian cuisine . The word Khokhop ( խոխոպ) means ; poultry. The dish can be made with any poultry meat as you may have guessed. A great idea to make Khokhop on thanksgiving day with turkey.

Flavorful, filling and uniquely tasting pomegranate chicken  dish, that’s easy to make and can be served as a full dinner without any sides. Of course if you have a good fresh bread to go with khokhop , you’ll have the best tasting dinner ever!

I made a few changes to the original version of the dish to add extra flavors, and I can guarantee you’ll love those additions. Originally this pomegranate chicken dish is made with poultry, onions, pomegranate seeds and some butter, seasoned with salt and pepper. I added; garlic , ginger , wine and curry.

Hope you try and love this delicious dish Khokhop. Will wait for your feedback after you try the recipe. Reach me out on instagram or Facebook, or simply leave a comment in YouTube tutorial comments section.

Pomegranate Chicken Dish - Khokhop

Ingredients

2 lbs poultry ( I chose to use chicken drumsticks and thighs )

3-4 medium onions , sliced to semicircle

2 tbs olive oil

3-4 tbs butter , optional

1 cup pomegranate seeds, save some to garnish

½ cup wine , I used pomegranate wine, will suggest to choose white wine not to make the meat dark color

1 tbs grated ginger root

2-3 cloves of garlic, minced

½ tsp ground black pepper

½ tsp curry powder

Salt to taste

  1. You may want to review the ingredient amounts. Had I used the amount of ginger, garlic, and curry powder that you list, they would have overpowered the delicate taste of the pomegranate. I would cut them down by at least half. Otherwise, it’s a wonderful dish that was a great success at a potluck that I went to.
