Baked Doughnuts Recipe

Directions

Sprinkle the yeast over  ¼ cup warm water and set aside to activate (5-7 minutes or until the mixture is foamy )

In a mixing bowl combine:

2 cups flour ,salt , sugar ,egg ,shortening , milk and activated yeast mixture

Mix with a wooden spoon, the mixture should look runny and wet

At this point you can start your mixer with hook attachment ( or you can do this by hands if desired)

Mix on a medium speed by adding the remaining 1 ½  cups flour, ½ cup at a time (add just a little more if needed), we need to have a non sticky ,elastic dough, so be very careful when adding extra flour , add in small portions only!

Knead the dough about 3-5 minutes ,or until it forms a ball

Transfer the dough on a clean ,floured surface and continue kneading 2-3 minutes

Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with plastic

Let it rest in a warm place ,until doubled in size (about 45 minutes to an hour)

Turn out the dough onto a floured surface and roll out to ½ inch thickness

Cut with floured doughnut cutter (or if you don’t have one ,just use one large and one small round shape cookie cutters )

Place the cutted doughnuts onto a lined baking sheet 2” apart ,lightly brush the tops with oil

Cover loosely with plastic and let them rise about 25-30 minutes

At this point you can start preheating oven to 375° F  degree /200 C

Bake 10-14 minutes or until golden color

To make the glaze:

Add melted butter and vanilla extract to confectioners sugar ,add hot water 1 tablespoon at a time , the icing has to be thin but not too runny

Dip baked doughnuts into glaze and place on a cookie rack to drain off excess

Doughnut holes can be dipped in 1/2 sugar + 1tsp cinnamon mixture ,just make sure to lightly spray those with cooking spray so that sugar stick better

Tip :

These can be fried if desired ,in 350 F /175 C degree hot oil

  1. I made these this morning and they are a really nice breakfast to make on a Saturday morning when you don’t need to be anywhere! I had mine with yoghurt, instead of chocolate glaze, and strawberries!
